Waste Management
The Municipality of Calvin takes active measures to prolong the life of the Municipal Landfill Site. Although the landfill site’s useful life is limited, studies show it is possible to increase the life expectancy.
The Municipality works in partnership with Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority, Ontario Electronic Stewardship and Ontario Tire Stewardship to recycle scrap metal, electronics and tires.
We have an area for reusable items called “Free to a Good Home” also known as “The Calvin Mall”.
Landfill Site
The municipal landfill site is located at 111 Adams Road.
Summer hours: May 1 to September 30
Tuesday: 1 pm to 6 pm
Saturday: 10 am to 3 pm
Winter hours: October 1 to April 30
Tuesday: 1 pm to 4 pm
Saturday: 10 am to 3 pm
You must present your landfill pass to use the site. Each pass allows 2 ‘free day’ uses. When pass card is empty pay $1.00 per bag. Please use clear bags.
If you are a new resident, you may obtain a pass card (free) from the Landfill Attendant at the landfill or the municipal office.

The Municipality of Calvin also works with the Ontario Medication Returns Program (OMRP) and the Ontario Sharps Collection Program (OSCP), which administer and offer drop off locations through a very large network of community pharmacies across the province. Through the OMRP, any member of the public can return unused or expired medications or health products directly back to the pharmacy. The OSCP offers members of the public an approved sharps container for medical sharps and needles, this container can be retrieved at your local pharmacy. Both of these programs are completely free to the public as they are funded by the producers.
The programs already exist and operate in our community. The programs provide for safe and proper disposal, diverting pharmaceuticals and sharps away from landfills. Furthermore, redirecting these waste streams to the OMRP network will reduce our risks and costs in managing them.
- The Health Products Stewardship Association operates programs locally through participating pharmacies to collect these products.
- Visit your local participating pharmacy to return these products. Find the one nearest you by visiting www.healthsteward.ca or by downloading the Recyclepedia App on your device.
- Pharmaceuticals/medications/prescription drugs and medical sharps are household hazardous waste and should not be placed in the regular garbage collection.
